Gifts for the person who has everything
Buying gifts becomes a chore when the recipient is a person who already has everything. Here are a few new and creative ideas to help.
What to do when you suddenly draw a blank trying to come up with a gift idea for that person on your list who “already has everything?” Of course it makes a difference whether the recipient is old or young, married or single, and whether he or she lives in a small or large dwelling. Keeping those restrictions in mind, see if you can’t find something on the following list that will fit your “difficult” case to a tee.
SPECIAL FOODS: (These are real hits with Seniors,
especially those with limited space for
storing gifts. They can eat them or share
them with friends.)
CANDY: Not huge amounts. Better 3 or 4 fancy
Chocolate Truffles than a gigantic box of
goodies that will spoil before they are
eaten.
COOKIES: Homemade if possible. People like
knowing that you took time to make something
especially for them.
DELICACIES: Tins of oysters, Caviar, Wine,
Imported Cheeses
LABOR SAVING GIFTS:
PRE-ADDRESSED ENVELOPES:
Get the addresses of your recipient’s paper
boy, electric company, phone company, Doctor,
and a few good friends. Give them a dozen
stamped envelopes pre-addressed to each of
these people. This will save them time, and
in some cases, pain, when arthritic joints
make writing painful. They will bless you
every month for a year.
YARD WORK: Most older people could stay in
their homes longer if only they were able to
keep up with their yards. Give them a gift of
a couple of hours a month of yard service,
provided by you or by someone you hire.
PHOTO ALBUM PROJECT: Spend an afternoon with
the person you want to “gift”, and help them
organize their photos. Bring along an empty
album, or a box to file the pictures in. Ask
about each picture and write pertinent
information on the backs of unmarked photos
before filing or mounting.
CONSUMABLE GIFTS: (These are especially nice
because you can repeat them year after year
as they are used up.)
Stamps
Puzzle Books
Magazines or magazine subscriptions
Newspaper Subscription
Note Cards
Stationery
GIFT CERTIFICATES:( These certificates give
those on limited incomes a chance to treat a
friend once in a while or indulge themselves
with a movie, a new hair-do, or a rare phone
call to a long-distance acquaintance.)
McDonalds
Dairy Queen
Phone Company
Any favorite restaurant
Beauty Shop
Movies
A Play
YOUR TIME TO TAKE HIM OR HER SOMEWHERE: (Many
of these outings won’t cost much, but the
idea that you are taking your time to be with
the recipient will mean more than anything
else you could give him.)
Fishing
Bowling
Shopping
Out to Eat
To the Library
For a Drive
To Visit a Friend
The ideas above can be adapted to anyone on your gift list; even that person who “already has everything." So why not keep this list handy and start today to stockpile a few of the items on it in order to avoid a rush trip to the mall the next time you need a gift in a hurry.
